Success Stories and Tools you can use

The Sons of The American Legion Squadron 374 in Millard, Nebraska undertook a project to raise funds for the Heartland Honor Flight of Nebraska. This is a project that takes WW2 veterans and fly's them out to Washington D.C. to visit the WW2 Memorial. In conjunction with the VFW Squadron Commander Curt Jordan and the Squadron solicited donations to assist them with an evening dinner, silent auction, and raffle prizes. The event was held July 25, 2008 at the Millard Post Home. Along with many WW2 veterans, dignitaries included Nebraska Governor Dave Heinemann and Nebraska Congressmen Lee Terry. Over 600 dinners were served and $12,000 was raised! To top the evening off a matching donation was made by the Peter Kiewit Foundation. After a lot of hard work a great evening was had and a total of $24,000 was raised for a very worthwhile project. As a show of thanks, Commander Jordan was invited to fly back to Washington D.C. along with a group of WW2 veterans. In November, Nebraska Alt. NEC Frank Vail, and a Squadron 374 member will be going back with another group of WW2 veterans to the WW2 Memorial. For God and Country, Karl Frederickson Detachment of Nebraska

The Detachment of Arizona has combined two great past times, Baseball and Eating, into one super Fund Raising Tool. They have enlisted the help of a local restaurant chain to help raise fund for American Legion Bsaseball. The retaurants donate back 15% when diners come in and use the ad.

See their Fundraiser Flyer/Ad. Think of how you can adapt this idea for CWF, NEF or any other American Legion program and to fit your area and have a successful fund raiser.
